An evening of music and dance will be presented by the West Windsor-based Kai Yue Foundation at the State Theater in New Brunswick on Saturday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m. This evening of entertainment, celebrating the art of dance, music, and singing will support the New Jersey-based United Moms Charity Association, an organization working for the development and empowerment of underserved populations worldwide.
Artists include KC Porter, a Grammy-winning American record producer, musician, and singer who has worked for more than three decades in the entertainment industry. He worked with Cheng Lin and produced the album “Greater Than Gold” in 2007.
Lin, a Chinese music artist, who has sold more than 25 million albums, will also perform. Her debut performance at age 13 featured the song “Little Horn.” She is also plays the erhu, a traditional two-string violin.
The first Chinese national to have music videos shown on television in the 1980s, Lin is a pioneer in solo music production in China. She studied modern music and production at the University of California during the early 1990s and later formed the Cheng Lin Band in Los Angeles. Cheng and Porter will perform several duets at this show.
Zhang Aoyue, a Chinese dance artist, is the 2013 winner of “So You Think You Can Dance.” Aoyue also led a group of top dancers from China, squaring off against the best American dancers in the “Super Dancer Born Tonight” competition event in 2013. The performance fascinated American audiences, and his group won the Best Dance Group title. “This event will showcase this superstar’s amazing techniques, elegance, and passion for dance,” says Yun Li, a West Windsor resident and volunteer with the foundation.
The show will also feature Takala Land Dance Studio with Chinese American hip hop dance and chamber music by Dolce Suono Ensemble.
