Nitya Sivakumar, an eighth grade student at Community Middle School, was chosen as the New Jersey state representative for the upcoming Jamestown Live! web event. She was given the opportunity because of her 2006 National History Day documentary on Nelson Mandela, which she created as a seventh grade student.

Nitya will represent New Jersey as a student leader in the one-hour web event. One student from every state and the District of Columbia was selected via the National History Day 2006 program. These representatives will participate in a number of activities November 7 through 9, including the web opening event with a flag ceremony, tours of the Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestown Island, and Colonial Williamsburg. Expenses for Nitya and a parent will be covered by the Jamestown Live event planners.
