The group hoping to construct a new center for the Institute for Islamic Studies on Old Trenton Road between Dorchester Drive and Princeton-Hightstown Road appeared before West Windsor’s Site Plan Review Advisory Board on January 14. The group agreed to make several changes in response to concerns raised by neighbors. The revisions will be presented at the next SPRAB meeting on Monday, February 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Room A of the Municipal Building. (The meeting scheduled for January 28 has been canceled.)

Tahir Zafar of the Islamic Society said that the concerns included possible light pollution coming from cars in the parking lot as well as from the lights in the parking lot. Zafar said that berms can be extended to shield the neighbors and that the parking lot lights can be controlled by a timer.

The planners also asked that a fire hydrant be installed in the front of the structure. The proposed two-story facility would have a total of 29,110 square feet on a 7.17-acre parcel.

Arbor Day Planning. The West Windsor Shade Tree Commission will meet Wednesday, January 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building. On the agenda: Planning for Arbor Day.

Holiday Closing. Municipal offices will be closed Monday, January 21, for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Waste Management will operate on a normal business day for garbage pick-up.
