Students from a number of area high schools saw their artworks on display starting last month in the 4th Annual Phillips’ Mill Youth Art Exhibition, and one Plainsboro resident took home an award from the show.
The exhibition featured the works of about 150 students from 19 schools in the counties of Bucks and Montgomery in Pennsylvania and Mercer and Hunterdon in New Jersey. Exhibited art included painting, watercolor, collage, pastel, graphite, digital art, photography, ceramics and sculpture. Cash prizes were determined by this year’s juror artist, Pat Martin, and more than $2,500 was awarded to winning students.
Katherine Eo, a student at West Windsor-Plainsboro South, won first place in the category of Works on Paper for her water-soluble graphite work, “Weird Science.”
The exhibition, which concluded last weekend, was free for the schools and the artists. Other Mercer County schools participating in the show were Ewing High, Hopewell Valley Regional High School, The Hun School, The Pennington School, Princeton Day School, and Stuart Country Day School, in addition to High School South.
Republican Club elects new officers
The West Windsor Republican Club has elected seven officers for a one-year term, effective Jan. 1.
Officers for 2017 are Marshall Lerner, president; Andrea Mandel, first vice president; Gretchen Zimmer, second vice president; Robert Murray, treasurer; Virginia Manzari, recording secretary; Paul Murphy, corresponding secretary; and Gene O’Brien, parliamentarian.

Deaths
George W. “Pete” Sassman, 94, of Plainsboro, died on Jan. 17. Sassman was a machine operator for Trap Rock Industries. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James and Marion Sassman and Kevin J. and Diane Sassman.
Joseph J. Schumacher Jr., a native of Princeton Junction, died Dec. 22. He graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and completed the Naval Nuclear Power School program in Orlando.
Nancy Lee Hanawi Goodman, 83, died Jan. 10 in Pacific Grove, California. Survivors include her brother, Dick Hannye of Princeton Junction.
Norman R. Thompson, 68, of Manalapan, passed away on Jan. 26. Survivors include son Bryan Thompson and his fiancée, Morgan Carlsen of Plainsboro.
