Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh, a professional planner and political leader of a town in the midst of creating a major redevelopment plan, has been appointed to the State Planning Commission, a division of the Office of Smart Growth.##M:[more]##
Hsueh’s appointment was confirmed on Monday, May 21, by a state senate judiciary committee vote. He was nominated to the position by Governor Jon Corzine.
“He was named to the Commission for his leadership in municipal planning matters, his educational background and his dedication to providing a sustainable and prosperous future for the state,” said a spokesperson for the Office of Smart Growth.
According to the spokesperson, the State Planning Commission is charged with drafting and implementing the state development and redevelopment plan. The Commission works with counties and municipalities to help them do better planning and to align their local zoning with the State Plan.
Hsueh He will be one of 17 members of the commission. His duties will include attending monthly meetings, participating in sub-committee meetings and providing input and guidance into the drafting and implementation of the State Plan.
Both Hsueh and the SPC say his appointment to the commission will have no negative effect on West Windsor’s redevelopment.
“I don’t believe it will hurt,” Says Hsueh. “I don’t’ want to elaborate. I have to say that at the present time, West Windsor has been very good at getting support from the state. The Alexander Road Bridge will cost $10 million, and the state paid for that.”
Hsueh said he will excuse himself from any discussion that would affect the township. “I don’t see a negative side to it.”
