In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Princeton Public Schools and Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund is set to host a cultural celebration.
Hispanics in Princeton is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 10 in John Witherspoon Middle School’s auditorium. The program is set to feature poetry, song and dance, as well as, local speakers examining the rich cultural heritage of Hispanics past and present in the area.
The event is organized by Nina Lavado, the newly named Parent Education and Community Outreach Coordinator for Princeton Public Schools and the coordinator for Latinos En Progreso at PPS, and Rebecca Salazar, a board member of LALDEF and Community Parky PTO co-president.
Salazar is also a vocalist who performs and holds workshops in New York and around the region. She is set to perform with Bo Child, Steven Kunzman and Cliff Hochberg at Hispanics in Princeton.
Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized nationwide from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to celebrate the culture and traditions of those who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean. According to 2012 estimates, more than 360,000 people identify themselves as Hispanic in Mercer County.
