Grover, Community Sweep MathCounts

Mathletes of Grover Middle School captured the first place trophy and mathletes from Community Middle School brought home the second place trophy in the regional MathCounts competition. Close to 150 students representing 17 school districts took part in competition.

Students from Grover Middle School include Andrew Zhong, Byron Chin, David Xiong, Julia Wu, Kai Zheng, Matt Antony, Ronak Ramachandran, Sharon Zhang, and Timothy Feng. Students from Community Middle are Alexander Xue, Cathy Wu, Charles Dai, Christopher Xue, Jeffery Yu, Kimberly Ding, Matthew Ye, Shannon Weng, Tirtho Banerjee, and Tyler Shen.

WW-P students secured 11 of the top 15 spots in the competition, including those from GMS: first place, Alexander Xue (Community); second place, Christopher Xue (Community); third place: Kai Zheng (Grover); fourth place, Jeffery Yu (Community); fifth place: Sharon Zhang (Grover); seventh place, Julia Wu (Grover); eighth place, Byron Chin (Grover); 10th place, Charles Dai (Community); 13th place: Kimberly Ding (Community); 14th place, Tyler Shen (Community); and 15th place, Matthew Antony (Grover).

The Grover Middle School team, composed of Kai Zheng, Sharon Zhang, Julia Wu, and Byron Chin, along with coach Alyce Doehner, will compete at the state MathCounts competition in March.
