Greenwood Ave. Farmers Market

will once again become a community gathering place for residents to gain access to healthy, affordable food options, health screenings and summer fun.

Located at 427 Greenwood Ave. in Trenton, the Greenwood Ave. Farmers Market will kick off its second season every Monday, starting June 13 through Oct. 24, from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. (except holidays).

Each week, the market will feature Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables, tropical fruits, meat, eggs and bakery items. Matching dollars will be provided for residents using SNAP, WIC and SFMNP vouchers for fruit and vegetables. Health screenings, nutrition education, cooking demonstrations and live music will also be included in the weekly activities.

“We are excited to once again bring locally grown healthy food and health resources to our Trenton families,” said Marissa Davis, New Jersey Partnership for Healthy Kids-Trenton project director.

New this season, the Greenwood Ave. Farmers Market will be the first in New Jersey to provide free dinner for children ages 3 to 18 as part of the USDA Summer Food Service meal site every Monday beginning June 27.

“Our goal is to provide healthy, balanced meals for our kids during the summer months and ensure our children don’t go hungry once the school year ends,” said Sam Frisby, chief executive officer, YMCA of Trenton.

Opening day for the market will be a fun filled, community day with giveaways, health screenings, games, healthy tasting demonstrations, music by DJ Ms. Sue and more.

The market will host various special community events during the last Monday of each month. Of note on June 27 will be an Art Fest showcasing local youth art, as well as an art class for adults. Additional events include: Water Fest (July 25), Fit Fest (August 29), Bike Fest (Sept. 26) and Fall Fest (Oct. 24).

Food Vendors participating in the market include:

·Isles — Trenton-grown produce from the Tucker Street Farm

·Norz Hill Farm — Jersey-grown fruits and vegetables

·Cox Corner — Tropical fruits

·Franca Bakery — Fresh baked breads, rolls and healthy baked goods
