The West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance is teaming with Eagle Scout Paul Ligeti for the inaugural ride of his 11-mile bicycle tour of historic West Windsor sites. The trail’s starting point is at the corner of Village Road East and South Mill Road. Meet at the kiosk next to the World War II memorial on Saturday, October 29, at 2:30 p.m.

Ligeti, a member of Boy Scout Troop 66, will say a few words about his project before the start. A stop at the halfway point in Grover’s Mill features information about War of the Worlds — broadcast 74 years ago, on October 30, 1938.

Ligeti’s route passes many historic places in town including the two stops on the Underground Railroad and the site of a double murder in Dutch Neck in 1910 that led to the first use of the electric chair in Mercer County. A stop on the tour also includes the area Woodrow Wilson used to bike to from Princeton. The red markers you see around town are stops on Ligeti’s route, also found at https://wwhistoricbiker.weebly.com.

While much of the route is on roads with bike lanes or on quiet residential streets, it does include a portion of Cranbury Road. Helmets are required, and children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.
