Former Princeton Hospital nurse loses license after sexual assault charges

A registered nurse who worked at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center has had his license temporarily suspended following criminal charges that he sexually assaulted three male patients in his care.

Andre Maureece Angus, 39, of Ewing Township, was arrested Dec. 11, 2024, and charged with three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact. New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced the license suspension on Monday, Aug. 11.

The charges stem from incidents between September 2023 and March 2024, when Angus allegedly groped or inappropriately touched the genitals of three male patients while working at the Plainsboro hospital. His employment has been terminated.

Under an interim consent order filed July 28 with the New Jersey Board of Nursing, Angus agreed to suspend his nursing license pending the outcome of criminal proceedings. He must stop practicing nursing or presenting himself as a registered nurse.

“Patients being treated in a hospital trust that the individuals assigned to their care will treat them with dignity and respect, in accordance with medical ethics and professional standards,” Platkin said.

“Individuals who exploit their positions of trust to sexually prey on patients–as this licensee allegedly did–present a clear danger to the public that must be stopped,” he said.

The case was investigated by the Plainsboro Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after patients reported the incidents.

“The criminal allegations, if proven, demonstrate an egregious violation of professional standards that undermine the integrity of the nursing profession,” said Elizabeth M. Harris, acting director of the Division of Consumer Affairs.

“Under the consent order announced today, this licensee will have no professional contact with patients in any practice setting while these allegations are ongoing,” Harris said.

Patients who believe they were treated inappropriately by Angus can file complaints with the Board of Nursing at njconsumeraffairs.gov.
