As the summer recreation and fishing season draws near, the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife will be restocking the newly dredged Grovers Mill Pond with various species of fish on Monday, April 20. The restocking, scheduled for 1 p.m at the Van Nest Park Dock off Cranbury Road, is being done in conjunction with Earth Week.##M:[more]##

This past fall officials wrapped up the long-awaited removal of the sediment that had built up to a three-foot high layer at the bottom of the 37-acre freshwater pond over the past 250 years. The $4.6 million dredging project began in August, and was finished by late fall.

Township officials said they expect to award a second contract in the next few months for pumping the remaining water from the containment area, working the dredged material until it is reasonably dry, mixing the onsite material with the dried dredged material, and regrading the area. Work will begin this summer and last through the fall. The area is expected to be used by the township for soccer fields.
