It’s been a good fall for the Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Company, which received two grants in November — one from the Department of Homeland Security and the other from Tyco International.##M:[more]##

According to Deputy Chief Joe Zuccarello, the first grant for $9,”000 came from the Department of Homeland Security’s 2007 Assistance to Firefighters grant program, and will be used toward the purchase of a replacement thermal imaging camera. “If you have a fire in a residential building that’s filled with smoke, you can actually find the outlines of people if they’re trapped,” Zuccarello said. “It’s also useful for finding fire that are hidden within walls.”

The camera will replace one that the fire company purchased years ago. This is the second time the fire company received a grant from the program. It received a little less than $4,”000 in 2005 toward the purchase of high-pressure rescue bags. And the fire company has applied for another grant under a different Department of Homeland Security grant program for $6,”000 to be used for fire prevention purposes. It is waiting to hear back on that one.

Also in November, the fire company received $6,”000 from Tyco International’s life safety program grant to fund the purchase of anew hydraulic rescue tool, more commonly known as “the jaws of life.” Tyco is headquartered on Roszel Road in West Windsor.
