The Township of West Windsor is ready to levy fines against residents who habitually take their trash and debris to the curb too soon. Township business administrator Chris Marion says the education process for offenders is over, and repeat offenders could be slapped with a fine of up to $1,”000 and a court appearance.

West Windsor passed the ordinance called “Solutions to Stormwater Pollution,” over two months ago. The ordinance outlines a number of finable offenses, including early trash disposal. In the time since, Marion says, several West Windsor residents have proven to be habitual offenders. The township sent three letters to homes found to have brush, trash, or recycling repeatedly brought to its curb on a day when their trash pick up was not scheduled.

Marion said no fines have yet been handed out, but that may soon change. “The education process included sending three rounds of letters to repeat offenders. We just sent out a third and final notice, so if we go through another full collection cycle, and they still are not in compliance, we will fine them.”
