Rejoice in a pirate’s life when PinnWorth Productions presents Gilbert and Sullivan’s musical “The Pirates of Penzance” at Kelsey Theater. The show runs weekends Friday, January 13, to Sunday, January 22. A reception with the cast and crew will be held after the opening night’s performance.

The ensemble members include Plainsboro residents Ben Menaham and Dan Slothower. Audiences will enjoy the singing, the dancing, the plot twists, and some of the wittiest lyrics ever written for the stage in this entertaining and enduring musical.

This comic tale of mix-ups begins with a British orphan who has unintentionally spent his youth as an apprentice pirate — instead of a pilot — thanks to his hard-of-hearing nursemaid. His plan is to leave the band of pirates and expose them as thieves on his 21st birthday. But it turns out that he was born on February 29 and he remains apprenticed to the pirates for many more years.

“The show is bright, breezy, and a bit rowdy,” says Lou J. Stalsworth, the show’s director. “The voices are just marvelous — some of the best we’ve seen on the Kelsey stage.”

The Pirates of Penzance, Kelsey Theater, Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor. Friday, January 13, 8 p.m. to Sunday, January 22. Gilbert & Sullivan musical comedy presented by PinnWorth Productions. $18. 609-570-3333. www.kelseytheatre.net.
