Feeding the Hungry

Congregation Beth Chaim’s students have joined the synagogue’s long-standing commitment to feeding homeless families served by HomeFront. The students in grades seven to nine brought requested items to the synagogue and spent part of their Monday evening religious school program making 30 to 40 sandwiches and bagging individual meals complete with fresh fruit, snack bars, and a beverage.

“Children ages five to sixteen years old served by HomeFront receive these donated meals in conjunction with their Tuesday Fitness Night program,” says Holly Singer-Eland of West Windsor. She coordinates the program.

The Tikkun Olam committee regularly provides a full dinner including fresh fruit and vegetables for a group of more than 50 students attending HomeFront’s tutoring program at ETS. The meals are cooked by a growing base of caring congregants. The children in both the fitness and tutoring groups come from a HomeFront housing program including Family Preservation Center, Permanent Housing Program, and Transitional Living Program.
