A Plainsboro man was killed in a two-car accident on Route 1 in West Windsor that occurred at 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 7.
West Windsor Officer Frank LaTorre, the department’s lead traffic investigator, said that two vehicles, a silver 2017 Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 29-year-old man from North Brunswick, and a gray 2008 Infiniti G35, driven the 32-year-old Plainsboro man, were both traveling northbound on Route 1 North near the area of The Square at West Windsor shopping center before the Meadow Road overpass when the accident occurred.
LaTorre said the Infiniti struck the concrete median barrier, bounced into the center lane and hit the back corner of the Hyundai, which caused that car to slide nose first into the median. The Infiniti then went off the roadway to the right, striking and shattering a PSE&G utility pole. The car became airborne and then struck a tree roof-first, crushing the driver’s compartment.
Emergency services responded and pronounced the driver of the Infiniti dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported to the driver of the Hyundai or his 25-tear-old wife, who was a passenger. Police have not yet released the identity of the man killed in the crash pending notification of relatives.
The accident closed Route 1 North for more than three hours while authorities conducted an on-scene investigation, and PSE&G performed pole repairs throughout the night.

West Windsor Police responding to the scene were patrol officers and members of the Detective and Traffic bureaus. Also responding were personnel from West Windsor Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. and the Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Co.
Also responding were the Mercer County Prosecutors Office Serious Collision Response Team, the Mobile Intensive Care Unit, the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office and Lawrence Township Emergency Services.
