Fake Snow in the Classroom?

Dutch Neck School was recently visited by students and faculty from Mercer County College and Rider University in conjunction with National Chemistry Week. The program was coordinated by Helen Tanzini, a chemistry professor at Mercer College.

The 45-minute hands-on demonstration including using polyacrylate and water to create artificial snow used on movie sets; constructing bouncy balls from corn starch, glue, and laundry detergent; mixing crushed antacid tablets and vinegar to inflate a balloon; and making glitter slime from polyvinyl alcohol.##M:[more]##

The program was created to give the Mercer education and science majors a preview of what it is like to teach in a classroom. Mercer students often continue their education at Rider for a four-year degree.
