Kevin Hawryluk of West Windsor celebrated the achievement of his Eagle Scout award on January 17 at Queenship of Mary Church in Plainsboro. A member of Boy Scout Troop 759, he is a senior at High School North.

For his Eagle project, Hawryluk built two rolling bookcases for the Martin House Learning Center’s after-school program. The program provides homework assistance, academic tutoring, and enrichment activities to children and adolescents in the Wilbur Section of Trenton. Hawryluk, a volunteer tutor for the past three years, was asked to build the bookcases so that books and instructional materials can be easily moved from one room to another. Adrian Jackman, an assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 759, was Hawryluk’s Eagle project mentor.

A scout since 2002, Hawryluk participated in a variety of campouts, hikes, biking trips, service projects, and summer camps. His favorite experiences included a high adventure trip during the summer of 2005 in the Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico during which he hiked more than 65 miles with five fellow members of Troop 759, and a high adventure Seabase trip, which involved wilderness camping, kayaking, and deep sea fishing off the Florida Keys.

Hawryluk, an active member of stage crew for the school’s theatrical production, and a part-time worker at Cold Stone Creamery, plans to major in political science in college. He is the son of Richard and Mary Katherine Hawryluk.
