To celebrate the beginning of the construction of a new classroom addition at Dutch Neck School, student representatives met with administrators. The students included Sam Berger, grade 2; Mariella Filippis, grade 3; Tyrell Williams, grade 1; and Katelyn Saldanha, kindergarten. Administrators included Larry Shanok, assistant superintendent for finance; Hemant Marathe, president, Board of Education; Daniel Umstead, assistant principal, Dutch Neck School; Ellen C. Walsh, chair, administration and facilities committee of the Board of Education; Scott Feder, principal, Dutch Neck School; and Robert Loretan, superintendent of schools.##M:[more]##

The construction is part of the 2006 facilities referendum, which also includes major construction at High School South for a new gymnasium, auditorium, fine and theater arts classrooms, and other renovations. Also both high schools will begin construction of turf fields in spring, 2007.
