Click It or Ticket Campaign Is Back

The Plainsboro Police will be participating in the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign beginning on Monday, May 21 and concluding on Sunday, June 3.

The annual initiative includes high visibility law enforcement seat belt check points and “saturated” patrols, as well as local and national publicity and advertising designed to inform drivers and passengers of the value of seat belts.

This year the Click It or Ticket effort happens to coincide with the opening of the new hospital, which is set for Tuesday, May 22, and an increased police presence was already planned for that initial week of the hospital’s operation.

Last year, the seat belt usage rate in New Jersey rose for the 15th consecutive year to 94.51 percent. Gary Poedubicky, acting director of the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, said that seatbelts saved an estimated 12,546 lives nationwide in 2010.

During the 2011 “Click It or Ticket” campaign, 419 police agencies nationwide participated in the initiative, and as a result 32,228 seat belt citations, 5,865 speeding summonses, and 953 drunk driving arrests were recorded across the U.S.
