Classical Indian dance demonstration set for March 15

Learn traditional Indian dances at Kalanjali School of Dance’s event set for 8 p.m. March 15.

The event takes place at Littlebrook Elementaty School, 39 Magnolia Lane, Princeton.

The event begins with an Indian classical group dance called Kautuvam, proceeded by a talk by teacher Sudha Devulpalli, who will discuss the origin of Indian dance.

Devulpalli will teach participants some classical Indian dance moves. The event will end with a semi-classical group dance called Muraliya.

Kalanjali School of Dance is a classical dance school for student age 5 and older.

Their teacher, Devulapalli, began her training in Bharatanatyam, classical Indian dance, and Kathak in Jamshedpur, Bihar during her school years and completed her Arangetram under Smt. Sumati Kaushal.

She continued her advanced training under Dr. K Uma Rama Rao in choreography and teaching methodology. During her stay in Madras, she was also receive further tutoring from Pad-mashri Kalaimani Adayar K. Lakshman.

In 1997, she started Kalanjali School of Dance where 26 students have successfully performed their aarangetrams, which is an on-stage debut of a Bharatanatyam student. 5 more student are graduating this year.

The school currently has more than 125 students.
