Church to host Sweetheart Dinner and art contest

First Baptist Church of Eggerts Crossing is hosting an art contest for high school and college students.

The Sweetheart Dinner art contest theme is “love in the eyes of God,” focusing on women. Selected work will be included in silent and online auctions.

The contest is open to students age 17 to 25 who are are attending high school or college in New Jersey.

Art must be on submitted on an 11” x 14” poster board. Accepted mediums are pen, pencil, markers, paints, oils, charcoal, watercolors and acrylic.

Twenty submissions will be selected for an online auction. The rest of the entries will be included in a silent auction at the church’s Sweetheart Dinner, scheduled for 5 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Hollowbrook Community Center, 320 Hollowbrook Drive, Ewing.

Contest winners will be chosen by bidding. Three artists with the highest bids will split 10 percent of the Sweetheart Dinner’s proceeds.

Additionally, a portion of Sweetheart Dinner proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Students are asked to submit an online form with a digital image of their painting and essay describing how it illustrates the theme, 200 words maximum. Later, entrants will mail their paintings to First Baptist Church of Eggerts Crossing, 121 Hillcrest Ave., Lawrenceville. There is a $10 entry fee for each painting.

The submission deadline is Jan. 24. Online auction, on Ebay, is scheduled for Jan. 26 to Feb. 2.
