New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia is expected to participate in a rehabilitation assignment for the Trenton Thunder July 2 as they face the Portland Sea Dogs.

According to the Thunder, Sabathia’s appearance is contingent on his continued progress in rehabiliation exercises, the weather, and other factors.

Sabathia owns a career record of 208-119 with a 3.63 ERA over 14 seasons. He’s been an All-Star six times, was the 2007 American League Cy Young Award winner, and lead the AL in wins twice. He joined the Yankees in 2009 and helped them win 2009 World Series title.

Prior to being placed on the disabled list, Sabathia was 3-4 with a 5.28 ERA in eight appearances this season. He is recovering an inflamed right knee cap caused by a degenerative condition in its cartilage.

Sabathia will be the fifth Yankee to play in a rehab game with the Thunder this year joining Brendan Ryan, Bruce Billings , Shawn Kelley and Francsico Cervelli. He will be the 43rd different member of the Yankees and 20th Major League All-Star to play for the Thunder on rehab assignment since the two teams became affiliates in 2003.

The Thunder is also set to honor late Golden Retriever “Bat Dog”, Chase, before the game. The first 2,000 fans age six and over are set to receive an 11” x 14” montage of Chase’s life.

In addition, fans can bring their dogs to Arm & Hammer Park to join in the celebration for Chase. Dogs are free if they can sit on a lap or at a fan’s feet but if they require more space, a children’s ticket must be purchased for them.
