Sinfonietta Nova’s may be based in West Windsor, but the orchestra’s new season takes you on a journey inspired by natural landscapes around the world. The opening concert will be held Saturday, October 17, at Prince of Peace Church in West Windsor. Focused on the European continent, the music will take you from Fingal’s Cave off the west coast of Scotland through the Norwegian mountains, and across the Bohemian meadows and forests.

Musicians from West Windsor and Plainsboro include Peter Brooks, Alan Amira, Lea Petri, Joseph Hetman, Geoff Fleming, and Gail Lee. Tickets are $15.

The concert includes Felix Mendelssohn’s “The Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave),” Franz Berwald’s “Reminiscence of the Norwegian Mountains,” Smetana’s “Vltava” (The Moldau)” and “From Bohemia’s Fields and Groves” from Ma Vlast. Mozart’s “Violin Concerto No. 4, K. 218 in D Major” will be performed with the orchestra by Elena Chernova-Davis.

After graduating with honors as a full scholarship student from the Tashkent State Conservatory, Chernova-Davis came to the United States to continue her studies with soloist Elmar Oliveira and first violinist of the Vermeer Quartet, Shmuel Ashkenasi.

She has performed with Florida Grand Opera, Artosphere Festival Orchestra, and Princeton Symphony. Chernova-Davis has enjoyed a multifaceted career as soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster in her native Uzbekistan and throughout the United States.

“Her performance will be especially thrilling for young people who are studying the violin,” says Gail Lee, the orchestra’s artistic director, conductor, and a resident of West Windsor. “As a passionate and dedicated teacher her philosophy is to guide development and tailor an individual approach to each student that encourages growth, curiosity, and motivation.”
