Nick and Denise Schiera of West Windsor opened their third Great Clips hair salon at East Windsor Town Center on Route 130 North. Grand opening celebration was held on Saturday, March 7, and $2.99 haircuts are available through Friday, April 17.

In 2001 the couple, who both have MBA degrees, decided it was time to look into “Plan B” for their income. Denise was working as a marketing consultant and Nick worked as an accountant at a brokerage firm on Wall Street. The couple had a small child and were eager to find a way to spend more time as a family while developing a business of their own.

They started looking into franchising as an alternative income stream. They chose Great Clips as the business they would pursue even though neither had any experience in the haircare industry. The Schieras opened their first Great Clips salon in 2002 in Nassau Park Pavilion, and their second in Hamilton Marketplace in 2004.

The Schieras’ company has grown steadily over the past few years and boasted a sales growth of nine percent in 2008. “Great Clips has enabled both of us to leave our respective jobs to dedicate our time to growing the salons and are now able to spend time with our two daughters, ages 11 and 6,” Denise Schiera says. “Our salons are open seven days a week, have convenient evening and weekend hours, and no appointment are necessary.”
