More than two dozen students in West Windsor and Plainsboro have earned the Girl Scouts’ Bronze Award, which recognizes junior scouts who have gained the leadership and planning skills necessary to fulfill a project that makes a positive difference in their community. The 25 girls are members of Troops 672, 1072, 1480, and 1577. The Girl Scouts were also recognized at the April 22 Court of Awards ceremony at Dutch Neck Presbyterian Church.

The scouts in Troop 672, all fifth grade students at Village School, collected approximately 400 plush toys that will be given to area children by emergency response units. The awardees include Mansi Chandra, Mimi Fang, Amy Gettelfinger, Jennifer Jimenez-Zelnick, Shrishri Kedia, Hunter Rendleman, and Krishna Trivedi. Christine Zelnick is the troop leader.

Troop 1072, all sixth grade students, provided babysitting services at the monthly Girl Scout leader meetings for the entire school year. The scouts divided the approximately 20 children present each month into four groups: crafts, games, story time, and homework help. Troop 1072 includes Lauren Apuzzi and Neha Kulkarni from Community School, and Alexis Bruno, Chelsea Easter, and Stephanie Yi from Grover School. Judy Apuzzi, Linda Bruno, and Josi Easter are the troop leaders.

The girls in Troop 1480, mostly all sixth grade students, created and ran a nighttime camping program. While on a night hike, girls are ensured that they will see various animals’ eyes, as they would be naturally found in a wooded setting, using several variations of the “Eyes and Night Hike” to try. The girls created one set of supplies for the Girl Scouts of Delaware Raritan and one set for the WW/P Service Unit.

Troop 1480 includes Community School students Alexa L’Insalata, Lauren Palena, and Natalie Sarchiapone; and Grover students Sydney Bender, Halley Costantino, Riddhima Kapoor, and Karin Sugeno; and a fourth grade student, Rachel Constantino, from Millstone River School. Cherianne Bender and Jan Costantino are the troop leaders.

The seventh grade girls in Troop 1577 collected pet supplies for various animal rescue organizations. Members include Kayla Marie Henry, Madison Nicieza, and Kelsey Stevens from Community School; Megan Heim from Grover School; and Olivia Carey from Cambridge School. Tracey Lee and Anne Stevens are the leaders.
