High School North has been notified that it has become one of four schools in New Jersey and one of 250 in the country to be honored with the prestigious Blue Ribbon School Program. The award is from the U.S. Department of Education and the New Jersey Department of Education.

Principal Michael Zappichi was notified last September that the school had been nominated by the state based on its overall excellence in test scores. He then filled out the extensive application, and based on all its programs, it was selected as the only high school in New Jersey to be given the designation this year.

“We’re a fairly new school, so it’s really a testament to our teachers and our kids that we were able to accomplish this so fast,” said Zappichi. He and teacher Maria Mingrone are traveling to Washington DC on Friday, November 10 to accept the award from the US Department of Education.

Both High School South and Maurice Hawk have Blue Ribbon designation.
