Plainsboro will now be able to award contracts for projects with higher costs without having to go through the bidding process, as allowed by state law.

The move comes as a result of an initiative by Governor Chris Christie, who adjusted the bid threshold for awarding a contract. As a result, municipalities that have qualified purchasing agents are now allowed to increase the threshold from $29,000 to $36,000.

“The resolution allows our purchasing officer to grant contracts up to $36,000 without having to bid the item,” explained Township Administrator Robert Sheehan. “It gives us a little flexibility with the bidding regulations.

In order to opt into this, the Plainsboro Township Committee had to adopt a resolution, which it did on July 28.

The township was able to take advantage of the move because the township has a qualified purchasing agent in Ron Prykanowski, said Sheehan.

In Other Business. The Township Committee adopted an ordinance that changed the name of Connector Road to Campus Road on August 11.

Connector Road ran between Plainsboro and Scudders Mill Road and turned into Campus Road on the northern side of the Scudders Mill Road intersection.
