Beth Chaim congregants organized a snack drive this June to support HomeFront’s summer camp for 150 children ages 5 to 14. They collected carloads full of individual-serving sized juices, water bottles and assorted snacks such as breakfast bars, pretzels, chips, applesauce, and fruit cups at Beth Chaim synagogue in West Windsor and delivered the food to Lawrenceville-based HomeFront for three consecutive weeks. Congregants’ donations also included home-baked snacks and Girl Scout cookies.

“When I contacted HomeFront in May — after hearing that the motel meals program would not be needed for the summer months — and learned that the large group of children served by the camp depends on HomeFront for meals including snacks, the opportunity to make a difference by organizing a snack drive seemed like a great fit,” says Holly Singer-Eland, a West Windsor resident who has organized the HomeFront motel meals program for Beth Chaim’s Tikkun Olam committee for several years.

“A key element of our mission as the Tikkun Olam committee at Beth Chaim is to determine the needs in our community and partner with local organizations to support their objectives while raising our congregation’s awareness of opportunities for social action,” says Carolyn Bricklin-Small, the rabbi at Beth Chaim.
