After 20 years as director of the Plainsboro Public Library, Jinny Baeckler has announced she will retire in May.

Once the head of Mercer County Library’s headquarters, Baeckler’s tenure in Plainsboro began in 1991, when the library was still housed in the old school house at 506 Plainsboro Road. She supervised an immediate expansion of services. Circulation increased from 45,000 to 120,000 in 15 months, and in January, 1993, the library opened at the municipal building.

Most recently, Baeckler helped the library move — this time to its state-of-the-art facility on Van Doren Street in the new village center. The new $12.4 million three-story library holds 125,000 volumes and boasts a list of amenities, including a health center.
