West Windsor Police Chief Robert Garofalo is asking residents to be extra vigilant in response to an increase to residential and auto burglaries in the township.
“Since this is a time of many family vacations and day trips, Chief Garofalo is asking if everyone could take a few extra moments to ensure your residences and vehicles are secured while we look out for one another as well,” said a department media alert.
Recent burglaries have occurred in the following developments: Benford Estates (1 residential); West Windsor Estates (3 residential and 1 vehicle); Colonial Park (1 residential); Edinburg (1 residential); and the Estates at Princeton Junction (2 residential).
“In the recent cases, some of the homes had been secured while others had unlocked sliding glass doors, garage doors, etc. for easy access,” said the release. “On one occasion, residents were inside at the time the actor(s) entered the residence. However, there was no confrontation between the burglar(s) and the residents.”
Most of the crimes occurred during the late evening and early morning hours.
“We are asking that we all work as one collective unit and community to help our neighbors,” said the release. “As always, our officers are patrolling, detectives and command staff are driving through your neighborhoods at various hours of the day.”
Anyone with information, or who sees suspicious activity is asked to call the department at either (609) 799-1222 for non-emergency situations, or 911 for emergencies.
