Arts Council to present East-West music dialogue

Musicians are set to play traditional Chinese instruments at an Arts Council of Princeton event on Aug. 29.

ACP and American Alliance for World Music and Arts are set to present New Generation of Infusion – An East-West Music Dialogue from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 29.

The event features performances by Chen Cao and Jennifer Zhang.

Seventeen-year-old Cao plays a two-stringed Chinese fiddle called erhu, as well as cello. He is set to attend the Curtis Institute of Music in September.

Cao was the first place winner in youth group at the “Ai-Qin” Cup China National Cello Competition in 2005. His past mentors include Li Da-Yi, Na Mu-la, Yu Ming-Qing, and Richard Aaron, a well-known cello professor at Julliard Music School and Michigan University.

In June, Ceo presented two cello concerto concerts in Beijing and Dalian.

Seventeen-year-old Jennifer Zhang began studying piano and on guzheng, a 21-stringed Chinese zither, as a child. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Richardson Auditorium and China National Orchestra Music Concert Hall.

Zhang was the grand winner on guzheng at the 2013 National Young Musicians Showcase Competition, bronze winner on guzheng at the Third American Youth Talent & Arts Contest in 2013, first place winner on guzheng at the 2012 Princeton International Chinese Music Festival Chinese Music Competition and the state representative at the 2012 National Young Musicians Piano Competition.

American Alliance for World Music and Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to broaden repertories of Chinese music through programs and to encourage cross-art form collaborations.

The alliances’s educational program have a tradition of bringing masters in and promoting and presenting tomorrow’s emerging talents.

General public tickets are $15. Tickets for ACP members, students and seniors are $10.

The event is set to take place at the Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, 102 Witherspoon Street, Princeton.
