Nancy Wesley is chairing the spring gala reception for the Mercer County Republican Committee on Monday, June 21, at Trenton Country Club. Wesley and her husband, Roy, the chairman of the club, have lived in West Windsor since 1994.

Born in Syracuse, New York, her father was a professional commercial photographer and her mother worked in advertising. Raised in Queens, she graduated from Queens College with a degree in accounting and economics. She worked at International Paper in New York City for 20 years, when they wanted to relocate her to Memphis, Tennessee. She later worked for New York Senator Roy Goodman and then the New York City Board of Elections, where she managed voter registration for all five boroughs. In New Jersey she worked as a legislative aide for Senator Inverso.

Her “career” in politics began when she was 13 — as a Goldwater girl. She was a member of the Women’s National Republican Club and commuted to Manhattan with a friend. She worked on many campaigns over the years.

She met Roy at the Metropolitan Republican Club in New York City when he was running for New York State Assembly. “We worked together and became friends,” she says. They moved to West Windsor when her husband was working for American Reinsurance in Plainsboro. He did the reverse commute from New York for two years and worked with the company for 30 years.

He has been the chairman of the Mercer County Republican Club since 2007. “He works a 100-hour week in the volunteer position,” she says. “When he began there was no money and no headquarters. In 2008 we opened the headquarters in Hamilton.”

In 2006 there were only 37 members. Three years later there were 250 members. “There are many new people coming out of the woodworks and old members rejoining,” she says.
