The Skate Park at West Windsor Community Park, just a month after its grand opening, was shut down. According to Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh, the park was locked on June 28 while the township tries to decide ways to make the people that use the park follow the rules.##M:[more]##

Hsueh later said the park would be reopened on June 29, once township workers had repaired the emergency phone at the site. He confirmed that at least one skater has been injured at the site.

The park is unsupervised. West Windsor’s liability is protected because the township has posted rules. Regardless, those rules have been reportedly ignored by many of the skaters that use the park. The park, which cost $200,”000 to build, charges no admission, but requires that skaters register with the township, and wear helmets.

“Some of the kids come from out of town and they really abused the site. Many didn’t register or wear helmets,” said Hsueh. “We are hoping to coordinate enforcement with the police department,” said Hsueh. “We will modify and improve the way the park has been run.”
