The Crossroads of the American Revolution recently unveiled new signage for the Old Barracks in Trenton as part of a statewide program to unify the more than 200 New Jersey Revolutionary War sites with a “common, compelling visual brand,” say organizers.

“Heritage tourism is a key economic driver for New Jersey, and the state’s extensive Revolutionary War history is an asset that’s yet to be leveraged to its fullest extent,” said Crossroads board chair Ira Jersey. “There’s tremendous opportunity to unify local Revolutionary heritage sites across the state with the common brand. We’re thrilled that the Old Barracks is taking the lead in joining our efforts with an interpretive marker that puts the site into context with New Jersey’s extensive contributions to the fight for independence.”

The Old Barracks is one of the most significant structures still standing associated with the December 26, 1776, Battle of Trenton. The new signage was made possible by NJM Insurance Group of West Trenton and First Bank of Hamilton.

Crossroads executive director Janice Selinger said the signage project was important to New Jersey, historic sites, and the community: “Our strategic location between the new American capital in Philadelphia and British headquarters in New York meant the fight for independence was a constant here in our state. It is exciting to unveil this sign at the Old Barracks as we work to build support from New Jersey’s business community and secure funds for other wayfinding markers and interpretive panels.”
