June is here, and that means the American Legion baseball season is underway. For the WW-P American Legion team, the year started off with an 11-1 win over North Trenton on June 5. So far, the team is 2-1.

Returning to WW-P this year are Ralph Aurora, Ryan Demouth, Neil DeVincenzo, and Greg Weisbecker, who will lead a team with 13 newcomers. They include Dave Bizenov, Pat Boyle, Chris Campbell, Ryan Dontas, Scott Feryus, Casey Litwack, Joe Jenson, Jack Liang, Ryan McGovern, Brendan O’Leary, Tom Peters, Kevin Shattin, and Mark Sitek.

While the team went 11-13 last season, coach Don Hutchinson is expecting his team to compete well in the league. “The league is strong this year, but we expect to compete for a playoff position,” he said. “Our goal is to play hard every day and to play as a team.”

Against North Trenton on June 5, Hutchinson’s team hit the ball very well, “but I hope we are solid in all aspects of the game,” he noted. “If we pay attention to detail and execute well, we have a chance to win every day.”
