Sad About SuperFresh

I join a recent reader who expressed disappointment and inconvenience in the closing of the SuperFresh store in Plainsboro. My issue, however, is a larger one for our town in that the Plainsboro Plaza mall has now lost all three of its anchor stores (Ace Hardware and Peebles Department) with Hallmark about to close as well. More than 50 percent of the mall is now vacant with no plan in place to remedy the situation. Plainsboro is becoming an increasingly unattractive town due to the loss of retail services, which includes a ban on gas stations and convenience stores. Residents are now forced to venture out onto Route 1 to shop. We don’t need a super store, we just need a small grocery store, not unlike a Gristedes or Dagastino’s.

Lastly, I have to wonder, where is our Mayor Cantu hiding? He was also deathly silent and unavailable during the Sandy crisis. Not one word about these important issues. It’s time for Plainsboro to wake up to this crisis of commerce and cease its singular focus on the non-existent traffic flows around the new hospital.
