Qasim, 15, and his brother Ahad, 12, died March 29, 2010 from carbon monoxide poisoning during a vacation in Pakistan to attend a wedding. More than 1,000 people attended the boys’ funeral April 3, 2010.

Three days later, their parents Basit and Abroo stood on the lacrosse field at Robbinsville High, clutching Qasim’s jersey, during a ceremony in honor of their sons.

The community continued to honor Qasim and Ahad two months later during the first Q and A Scholarship 5K. The race continues today, with the proceeds going toward two scholarships for Robbinsville High seniors.

This year’s race—the 9th annual—will take place Saturday, June 9, 2018. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m at Robbinsville High, with the race starting at 9 a.m. There is a 1-mile walk and a 5-kilometer race.
