Two Wonderful Dentists

I don’t usually write letters to the editor, however I wanted to publically thank two wonderful dentists in our community. The first one is a dentist who is not even our family dentist but a friend of a friend. He really went beyond the call of duty this past weekend. Our youngest daughter, age 11, had a very unfortunate skate boarding accident on Saturday afternoon and knocked her two front teeth completely out of her mouth.

My wife called a family friend who gave her Dr. David Shapiro’s number, and my wife called him in a panic with our daughter bleeding and screaming in pain in the background. Dr. Shapiro told my wife to meet him at his office across from Community Park in 15 minutes. He was home and stopped whatever he was doing at the time, and he met my wife and daughter at his closed office, which he opened for us. He proceeded to comfort my daughter, x-rayed her mouth, and was able to affix her two teeth back into her mouth. He also was able to call in a prescription to the local pharmacy for us.

Later on Saturday, my wife called our dentist, Dr. Zion Chen on Woodmere Way. He called us back almost immediately. He told my wife that he would meet her in the office on Sunday morning, first thing in the morning. He also opened his office on a day when he is usually closed in order to see our daughter in her condition. He was able to assess the condition of my daughter’s mouth and helped us get a game plan for the next step in having a permanent repair made to our daughter’s teeth.

These two dentists showed great compassion and went well beyond the day-to-day effort that we commonly see in today’s world.

Our family thanks you, Dr. Shapiro and Dr. Chen.
