Mercer County Sheriff’s Office is set to collect unused prescription drugs on April 26.

April 16 is the eight National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

In coordination with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, residents can dispose of unused and expired prescription medicines from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot in front of the Mercer County Administration Building, 640 South Broad St., Trenton.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible method of disposing of prescription drugs, while educating the public about the potential abuse of medications.

The safe-disposal program helps keep prescription drugs from falling into the hands of those who might make them available for abuse and prevents them from being flushed into the water supply or thrown into the trash and easily found.

During the seven previous Take-Back events, DEA, in conjunction with state, county and local law enforcement partners, collected nearly 1,700 tons of prescription medications that were removed from circulation.
