Maher: Two Teams Not So Different

Share post:

As the closest election in West Windsor in at least a generation comes to a close, I would like to thank all of the residents of the community that came out to vote on November 8. It is among the most sacred privileges we have as Americans that we can vote for our elected officials and collectively forge the direction of both our community and our nation.

Both teams — and a resourceful write-in candidate — worked diligently to craft a message that represented their view for West Windsor’s future, and each worked to deliver this view in a manner that would resonate with voters. The outcome was an election result that seemed to nearly equally divide those who came out to vote.

However, upon reflection, I do not believe that our messages were all that different. Both teams comprised individuals who care deeply about West Windsor and its future. Both teams want to see the community benefit from a “downtown” area that can bring residents together. And both teams, to varying degrees, want to see taxes kept under control while not sacrificing important services that the community values.

With the election over, it is now time for the entire Council to come together to work toward these goals. The challenge is not a small one. For my part, I pledge to work diligently toward delivering on these goals to the best of my ability and earn the trust the voters have placed with me.

Lastly, I would like to acknowledge my running mates Gary Zohn and Lauren Kohn, for their hard work, advice, and trust during this election season. I would also like to thank the many members of our campaign team, led by Gene O’Brien. Your hard work and sacrifice was appreciated more than you will know and will not be forgotten. Running a campaign, like leading a community, is truly a team effort — I could not have done it without these individuals’ committed support.

Thank you again, and I look forward to serving the community over the next four years.
