A special meeting has been set for June 11 to update residents on the status of Lawrence Township’s proposed Master Plan.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Lawrence Senior Center at 30 East Darrah Lane. It is part of the township’s effort to keep the public informed throughout the process.
“This ‘town hall’ meeting is an opportunity for residents to understand where the process is, to ask questions of the plan and to offer their insights into what our collective future could look like,” Mayor Christopher Bobbitt said.
A municipal Master Plan, which is required by state law, sets out the vision that a town has for itself. It guides how land will be used. It is also the basis for a town’s zoning ordinance.
The township’s current Master Plan was adopted in 1995. It has been updated periodically, but officials want to replace it with a new Master Plan.
The Master Plan has six plans or elements that include Goals and Objectives, and a Land Use element that includes hazard and climate change mitigation.
The other elements are a Circulation element for pedestrian and vehicular traffic; a Conservation element; an Economic Development element; and a Green Building and Sustainability element.
Participants may ask questions or provide public comment at the meeting. It may be possible to answer some questions on the spot, but not every question can be answered immediately, officials said.
A sign-in sheet will be provided for residents who wish to speak. They will be called in the order by which they sign in. They will have five minutes to make their comments.
“The Lawrence Township Council wants to hear from – and have reflected back – as many voices as possible. We are looking forward to this informative and productive conversation,” Bobbitt said.
