St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center is set to host hosting an open house and information session March 5.

The open house is 5:30 to 7:30 pm with a presentation at 6 p.m. at the rehabilitation center, 2381 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville.

Physical, occupational and speech therapists will be available for questions. Refreshments will be served.

St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center is a 166-bed, fully accredited, not-for-profit, physical rehabilitation hospital and outpatient health center. It offers specialized treatment for Parkinson’s Disease.

Physical, occupational and speech therapists at the center are certified in the Lee Silverman approach for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. The treatment aids speech communication and physical and occupation therapy for individuals with Parkinson’s as well as other conditions including stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.

Certified therapists teach patients to move “big” and speak “loud” to improve their patients’ awareness of motor patterns with minimal cognitive processing. Successful completion of the program will allow for carry-over of learned skills into everyday activities thereby positively impacting quality of life.

Research on this approach shows, with continuous exercise in conjunction with a stabilized medication regimen, the disease process can be slowed.
