Boy Scouts of America Troop 28 member Noah Hotz was honored with the Eagle Scout Award at a ceremony May 10.

The Eagle Scout award is the Boy Scouts’ highest advancement. Hotz is one of about 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank.

Each Eagle candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church or synagogue-related service project to earn Eagle rank.

Hotz designed and built picnic tables and benches to create an outdoor gathering area at his church, St. Elizabeth’s Russian Orthodox Church in Rocky Hill.

“This project is greatly needed by the community at St. Elizabeth’s because these tables are where we have coffee hour during the summer months and the benches that they have currently are dilapidated and are in need of replacement,” Hotz said in a statement.

Hotz has served as quartermaster, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, den chief and senior patrol leader in his troop.

An 11th grader, he plans to study mechanical engineering at a four-year college and aims to be part of a NROTC program.

Hotz is the son of Philip and Jennifer Hotz of Lawrenceville.

Troop 28 is open to boys who have completed fifth grade. They are scheduled to meet Friday nights from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Troop Hut at Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church.
