Trenton Council 355 of the Knights of Columbus has announced its honorees for the 2014 Shield Awards Dinner. This year’s law enforcement heroes include Mercer County Sheriff’s Officers Ralph MacKelvey, Anibal Santos and Detective William Miller along with Trenton Police Detectives James Letts and Edgar Rios.

Last May, Officers MacKelvey and Santos saved the life of a man suffering a cardiac incident aboard a Frontier Airline jet at takeoff. Officers Letts and Rios, both Trenton Police Detectives, were shot while investigating a domestic violence case in the city in August 2013. Detective Miller returned fire, defusing the dangerous situation.

A dinner will be held to celebrate these local heroes on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Stone Terrace, 2275 Kuser Road, Hamilton. Tickets may be purchased for $65 by contacting Rocco Zangrilli at 209–5035 or roccozangrilli@yahoo.com.
