Local heroes were honored at University Heights Elementary School Dec. 19.

Representatives from Rutgers Police Department, American Red Cross, PSE&G, Salvation Army, Mercerville Fire Department and the Hamilton Mayor’s office visited the school.

The school said representatives told the students their daily duties and responsibilities in Hamilton. They also shared stories about helping during Hurricane Sandy.

The school said students created thank you posters for each representative and donated toys, hats, gloves and mittens to the Salvation Army for Sandy victims.

University Heights’ fifth graders designed a t-shirt to support Sandy victims. The shirt is available for purchase online at uhpta.com.
