Hamilton township to sponsor rabies immunization clinic

Hamilton Township is sponsoring its first free rabies immunization clinic of the year for residents’ dogs and cats.

The clinic is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Jan. 25 at the McManimon Township Building, 320 Scully Ave., Hamilton.

The clinic is open to pets of township residents only; proof of residency is required. All dogs must be leashed and cats must arrive in a carrier. As a safety precaution, dogs should be muzzled, if necessary.

The New Jersey Department of Health Policy requires the immunization of dogs every 2 years, even if the inoculation is good for a 3 year period. 2014 dog licenses will not be issued if a pet’s rabies immunization expires before Nov. 1, 2014.

An electronic version of the 2014 dog license application is available on the township website. The application deadline in March 31.

Fees are $ 8 for spayed or neutered dogs and $11 for non-spayed or neutered dogs. For senior citizens, fees are $2 for spayed or neutered pets and $5 for non-spayed or neutered.

The next immunization clinic is scheduled for Feb. 22, followed by clinics in March, June and September.

UPDATE: The clinic scheduled for Jan. 25 has been postponed. An additional clinic is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. March 12 at the McManimon Township Building.
