New Jersey Department of Transportation officials announced a bridge superstructure replacement project on County Route 609 over all lanes of Route 130 in Hamilton Township March 18.

NJDOT expects an 8 month road closure while the project is completed and plans to reopen the bridge in the fall.

Preliminary construction, requiring periodic single lane closures, begins the week of March 18 and demolition and reconstruction is set to begin March 22.

During construction, the Route 130 northbound exit ramp to County Route 609 will also be closed to traffic.

County Route 609 northbound motorists will be directed to use Main Street to South Broad Street to Route 156 southbound to County Route 609.

County Route 609 southbound motorists will be directed to use Route 156 northbound, South Broad Street, Main Street to County Route 609.

Route 130 northbound motorists destined for County Route 609 will take the South Broad Street exit to Main Street to County Route 609.

In the announcement, NJDOT said it will maintain all travel lanes on Route 130 in each direction below the overpass during peak period hours. However, single-lane closures may be necessary on Route 130 during off-peak hours.

This $1.78 million federally-funded project will replace the existing, structurally deficient bridge superstructure running over Route 130 and make some minor substructure repairs.

The bridge was originally built in 1950 and has deteriorated over time. Contractors plan to resurface the roadway approaches on both ends of the bridge and install some curb and guide rail upgrades.
