Ewing’s high school and middle school Odyssey of the Mind teams won first place at New Jersey State Tournament hosted in their hometown April 13.

The teams are set to advance to the World Finals set for May 22 through 25 at Michigan State University in Lansing, Mich.

Fisher Middle School students competed against teams from Cranford, Edison, Woodstown and Pittsgrove in “The Email Must Go Through” division. The team was challenged to represent an email’s travel from sender to recipient through performance.

The high school team beat out teams from Flemington, Freehold, Edison and Hadonfield in the “It’s How you Look at It” division. This problem required the team to present a humorous performance including characters who act naturally; however, appear odd to others around them.

Additionally, a team from Parkway Elementary School came in fifth place, Antheil elementary’s team finished third and another team from Fisher took fourth place in their respective divisions.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that challenges teams to find creative solutions to problems and present them at regional, state and world competitions.
