Sustainable Jersey awarded Ewing its bronze certification.

Ewing is one of 117 towns out of 399 registered municipalities that attained bronze certification.

To become Sustainable Jersey certified, Ewing submitted documentation showing it completed enough of the required sustainability actions to earn 185 points, exceeding the minimum of 150 action points to be certified at the bronze level.

In addition to reaching 150 points, each community had to create a Green Team and accomplish at least two of seven priority action options. Ewing’s priority actions were completing a sustainable land use pledge and natural resource inventory.

Overall, the town completed actions in 10 of 16 available categories.

Certified towns excelled in areas such as improving energy efficiency and health and wellness, reducing waste, sustaining local economies, protecting natural resources, and addressing diversity and equity.

Mayor Bert Steinmann is set to accept the award at the Sustainable Jersey awards luncheon on Nov. 19 in Atlantic City.

Sustainable Jersey is a certification program for municipalities in New Jersey. Launched in 2009, the organization supports community efforts to reduce waste, cut greenhouse gas emissions and improve environmental equity.
